A few years ago, I created these full size ribbon trees as teacher gifts.
Since then I have thought that ribbon trees in a smaller form would make a gorgeous Christmas ornament. Here’s how I made the ribbon tree ornaments.

- 3/8 inch width holiday ribbon
- one 2 and 3/4 inch foam cone
- sequin pins (my ornament used 46)
- one 0.625 inch jingle bell
- 2.5 inch square piece of coordinating paper
- monofilament line
- hot glue gun
- hot glue
- scissors
Directions:
1. Cut the ribbon into 2 inch strips. If using more than one ribbon, organize the strips into piles in order of the pattern to use on the tree.
2. Take one strip of ribbon and fold it in the middle so the ends meet. Place it on the foam cone and use a sequin pin in the upper quarter to secure it into position. Apply the sequin pin at a downward angle so gravity will help keep it secure.
3. Repeat step 2, placing ribbon strips around the base of the cone until the first row is full. The next piece of ribbon to be added will be above the first row. Make sure there is some overlap so the pins do not show.
4. Apply the ribbon in rows until the top of the cone is reached but leave a little room at the top. Cut the styrofoam tip off with scissors. Wind a piece of ribbon around the top of the cone to hide the sequin pins on the top row. Use hot glue to secure the ribbon in place.
5. Use scissors to hollow out more of the top of the foam cone. Apply hot glue to the top of the cone. Turn the tree upside down and place an upside down jingle bell into the hot glue. Everything is upside down so the little ball that makes the jingle ball jingle doesn’t get stuck in the hot glue. I held my tree upside down for 5 minutes to make sure the glue dried completely.
6. Cut a length of monofilament line and insert one end into the top of the jingle bell. Make a loop with the monofilament line and triple knot the line. Cut off the excess. Rotate the monofilament line until it is inside the jingle bell. It will stay there naturally because of the size of the knot and the size of the jingle bell opening.
7. Cut a 2 and 1/4 inch circle with coordinating paper. I used my Creative Memories circle cutter but you could also just trace the bottom cone on the backside of the paper and then cut it out. Adhere the circle to the bottom of the tree. The ornament now looks great from above and below. You could also write a personal message on the circle or add a circular photo to customize the ornament.
